ABOUT OUR PASTOR
The Rev. Dr. Eugene S. Hudson was born in Swainsboro, Georgia and later moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where he found Christ early in his life and joined Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church. Upon graduating from Campbell Senior High School in 1963 and attending Volusia County Community College, he entered the U.S. Army. After a tour of military duty, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, secured a position in the financial district, and continued his education at the New York Institute of Finance and Kingsborough College. In June 1971, Rev. Hudson was baptized at the Unity Temple Baptist Church by the late Rev. J.R. Tate, who saw something “special” in him and immediately appointed him Superintendent of Sunday School. He served well in this capacity, but the Lord had a higher calling for him. On July 23, 1972, Rev. Hudson was licensed to preach the Gospel, and on March 31, 1974, he was ordained a Gospel Minister. Rev. Hudson received his religious training at the Manhattan Bible Institute and New York Theology Seminary, and earned his Bachelor of Theology Degree from United Bible College and Seminary, where he also served on the Board of Directors. On May 14, 1999, Dr. Hudson was conferred the Doctor of Divinity Degree from United Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida.
On March 18, 1978, Dr. Hudson was called to pastor Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Manhattan, New York, where during his thirty-three years as pastor, he established the Gospel Chorus, the Sunbeam Choir, the Mass Choir, Hudson’s Youth Ensemble; the Mother Board, Missionary Circle, Bible Study, and Fellowship Saturday; the Floral Club, Hospitality Club, Scholarship Fund, Building Fund, Outreach Programs, and a Day Care Center. At Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Dr. Hudson ordained Ministers, Deacons and Deaconesses, and consecrated Missionaries; and founded the Rocky Mount Bible Institute. The purchase of church property and two church vans were also attributed to Dr. Hudson’s leadership.
By a unanimous church vote, Rev. Dr. Eugene S. Hudson was called to be the Lifetime Pastor of Rocky Mount Baptist Church on December 6, 1981. He also served on the Leadership Committee of Nyack College in Nyack, New York. On September 11, 2005, Dr. Hudson received his Chaplain Degree from Empire International Chaplains Association.
Community service awards include the Proclamation for Outstanding Community Service from the borough of New York City on January 17, 2005; and special recognition from the State Assembly for continued dedication and outstanding services to the community on March 13, 2006.
Rev. Dr. Eugene S. Hudson retired in 2010 after 33 pastoral years, and relocated to his boyhood Daytona Beach, Florida. In 2011, Dr. Hudson joined the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church family and was titled Associate Minister for Christian Education; he immediately began orientating new members on the Beliefs of Baptists, Principles of the Christian Faith, and teaching weekly Bible Study. On Friday,
April 6, 2012, Rev. Hudson produced Mt. Bethel’s very first “Good Friday” Celebration, a presentation dramatized by members of the church. On July 7, 2013, Rev. Dr. Eugene S. Hudson was appointed (and confirmed by a unanimous vote) Interim Pastor of Mt. Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, and is currently in the process of teaching and training Mt. Bethel’s Deacons and Deaconesses, and assisting the Board of Trustees and all auxiliaries in leadership development.
Rev. Dr. Eugene S. Hudson is married to Willie M. Hudson, his wife of forty-two years.
